EMBRACING THE COUNTY / 24-02-2006

Story ImageThe Cornish Pirates are keen to embrace the county in the hope of realising a dream to bring Premiership rugby to Cornwall, our actions to date clearly confirming this.

It has been important that our home games are played on Sundays, this giving the opportunity for supporters from other clubs to follow their own teams on Saturdays, with them and their players then having the chance to come and follow us, if they so wish, on the Sunday.

As we are developing, it is clear that more people from around the county are getting behind our vision, true rugby people understanding the potential benefits that could be there for ‘One & All’. We, ourselves, besides honouring the usual range of community expectations, have invited various rugby folk from around the county to be present as our guests at certain matches. Several hundreds of tickets were sent to representatives from each section of every single club from throughout Cornwall, them attending the Newbury game at the beginning of January. Questionnaires were also provided for completion, with the many positive responses received making interesting reading.

Other guests have included certain Coaches from throughout the county, members of the Cornwall U15s squad, our Referees, Trelawny’s Army officials and committee members, and Colts players and officials from our each and every team.

Another area in which we feel we can help clubs to raise some funds for themselves, is by offering Cornish Pirates match tickets for them to raffle or auction. For instance, Perranporth U16s and Truro U16s were provided with tickets to enable them to raise funds for tours being undertaken, and for the Cornish Pirates game versus Pertemps Bees in March, all clubs were offered the chance of being provided with four tickets each for them to boost their fundraising.

What is mentioned above are just a number of examples whereby we feel we are openly and sincerely doing the best we can to allow people to enjoy the high quality of rugby football on offer. We are always willing to offer support where practical, so please don’t hesitate to contact us to ask for help
