CORNISH Pirates coach Jim McKay believes the
'best is yet to come' from his side as they recorded a first-ever win at Sharmans
Cross Road .
Two tries from former Bees scrum-half Gavin Cattle,
plus touchdowns from Matt Jess, Tim Cowley and Chris Morgan ensured the Cornish
club of a 36-24 win over the Pertemps Bees.
McKay, who was assistant
coach with the Midlanders three seasons ago, said afterwards: " We expected a
tough game here because the Bees are a very abrasive side and it is a difficult
place to come and win.
"I thought it was a real arm wrestle and we
were pleased to come out on top. Full respect to the Bees, because I thought that
they played very well and made it difficult for us.
"But at the same
time I was very pleased with the way our set-pieces went and the fact that we
showed just enough composure to secure victory after they came back at us so strongly."
McKay, whose side face Sedgley Park at Kenwyn this weekend, added:
"I was disappointed that we made a lot of unforced errors which allowed them back
into the game and that is something that we will have a look at when we run through
the video this week.
"There are little things that we still need
to get right, but there is so much more to come from this side."
