CORNISH Pirates coach Jim McKay had few complaints
after his side were hit with a six-try blast from Rotherham at Clifton Lane.
The
disappointed Australian, who lists the Yorkshire outfit among his former clubs,
said after his side’s 41-7 reverse: "We had trained well, our preparation before
hand was good, but on the day we just underperformed and got our just deserts.
"Full credit to Rotherham, they played very well and caused us plenty of
problems. That said, we added to our downfall as well. We really struggled with
our set-piece and our first-up tackling was not the best.
"Because we didn't
have a sound platform up front, it meant we lived off a limited supply of possession.
Even then, when we had the ball, we got turned over too much."
It was the
Pirates first reverse of 2006 and their first in the league since they lost to
Harlequins 50-6 at The Stoop back in mid-November.
McKay added: "We're
bitterly disappointed with the result, but we'll take it on the chin and look
to build again for next week against Exeter.
"At the moment we can't really
pinpoint just where it all went wrong for us, but you don't become a bad side
overnight and, like I said, we'll build again for this weekend."
