CORNISH
Pirates prop Nick Adams has spoken of his delight after securing a dream move
to the Guinness Premiership with London Wasps.
The experienced tight-head
has agreed a two-year deal with the top flight club bringing to an end a highly-successful
three-year spell with the Pirates.
Renowned for his destructive scrummaging,
Preston-born Adams has been a near ever-present in Jim McKay’s first-team plans
this season and his departure is sure to leave a big void in the Pirates front-row.
Adams becomes the fourth Pirate to be heading for pastures new. Joe Bearman
and Matt Jess have both agreed deals to join Celtic League side Newport-Gwent
Dragons, while lock Will James is also moving to the Premiership after signing
on for Gloucester.
For Adams, however, this move represents a big challenge
and he is clearly relishing the opportunity of coming head-to-head with some of
the biggest names in the game. He said: “I’m obviously delighted to be joining
Wasps in the summer.
“It’s very exciting and I’m looking forward to working
with and learning from people of the calibre of Ian McGeechan, Shaun Edwards and
Craig Dowd. This is a big opportunity for me and I’m just looking forward to meeting
the rest of the squad and getting stuck in.”
Adams – who joined the Pirates
from National One rivals Nottingham - also lists clubs such as Leicester, Nice,
Bourgoin and Plymouth Albion among his former teams.
It is that experience,
together with Adams’ all-round game that triggered Wasps Director of Rugby Ian
McGeechan to sign the player. He said: “We were looking for a specialist tight-head,
competitive and offering experience. In Nick we have found that player.

Coach Dowd, himself a former All Black tight-head, also recognises other attributes
in Adams that will enable the player to thrive in the Wasps environment. He added:
'Nick is mobile as well as being a destructive scrummager, and that suits our
game. He has still got a lot of potential to improve, and I believe we can take
this good prop and develop him into a really excellent one.'
