Cornish Pirates hooker Viliami Ma'asi may have
got on the scoresheet, but he was unable to prevent Tonga from going down 24-19
to Fiji in their Rugby World Cup qualifier in Teufaiva Stadium, Nuku'alofa.
Having trailed 19-0 at half-time, Tonga rallied strongly during the
second half. Ma'asi, who came on for skipper Aleki Lutui, grabbed his rewards
for an impressive display when he scored his try in injury time.
The
defeat consigns Tonga to third place in the RWC 2007 Oceania qualifiers, meaning
they must win through the repechage to get a berth in Pool A alongside the top
qualifier from Oceania .
Ma'asi, who has over 20 caps for his country,
played in all four group games for Tonga during their 2003 World Cup campaign
in Australia.
