During
January and February players from the Cornish Pirates have been involved in a
new community coaching programme sponsored by EDF Energy and linked with Premier
Rugby Limited.
The EDF Energy National Schools Programme, which was
launched by England winger Jason Robinson at the end of November, is being aimed
at boys and girls aged 8-10. It is one of the most comprehensive in world rugby,
involving close to 100,000 children and teachers at primary schools across England,
many of them schools where rugby has never been played before.

The
coaching of 'tag' rugby , a non-contact version of the sport that teaches the
skills necessary to go on and play rugby union, has taken place at various schools
within Penwith, with it planned that the programme is also expended to other schools
in the county where feasible.
Besides just coaching, given by the players,
the programme also includes the provision rugby balls and tag rugby equipment
for the schools.
