On
Saturday (June 23) the Cornish Pirates took part in Golowan 2007's 'Mazey Day'
Civic Procession, joining various local dignitaries in a walk from St. John's
Hall, Penzance, to the Market House and back. | Representatives
of Penzance & Newlyn RFC's mini-junior section led the Pirates gathering,
followed by senior players Chris Cracknell and Iva Motusaga, Press Gang members
and senior club officials, plus 'Captain Benbow'. The EDF
Energy National Trophy won at Twickenham in April was also carried high, and then
displayed on the club's stall in Market Jew Street which sold tickets for the
'Little Yellow Digger Appeal', a charity set up to help six years old Rhys Mott,
a godson of former club captain Gavin Cattle, who has undergone chemotherapy for
a brain tumour. The prizes on offer were Tim Cowley's trophy
winning shirt signed by the squad, and Stan McKeen's World Cup qualifying Canada
shirt. Raffle tickets are on sale until the Cornish Pirates
v Leicester game to be played on the 4th. August, and can be purchased from the
club shop/ticket office - 01736-331961. | | | | On
Saturday afternoon the EDF Energy National Trophy was on the move again, Rudi
Grenfell taking it to Camborne RFC for it to be shown off at a mini-rugby fund-raising
event held at Crane Park, the gesture once again much appreciated.. On
Sunday it was then the turn of head coach Jim McKay and three players to help
form a guest crew for Newquay Rowing Club's 8th Annual Invitation Charity Gig
Race, in aid of Children's Hospice South West . This was
a fun event with a purpose, helping to raise much needed funds for another very
worthy cause. Rhodri McAtee joined new signings Brian Tuohy and Gareth Steenson
to crew for Jim on an enjoyable and successful day. | | Jim
