The London Welsh Statement - Re Celtic League

Considerable debate has raged since yesterday's BBC story yesterday suggesting that London Welsh had applied to join the Celtic League.

London Welsh's Peter Thomas says "the BBC took a couple of sound bites totally out of context and created a story"

The full text of Peter Thomas' statement from London Welsh website says:

"You may have heard something on Radio Wales this morning implying that London Welsh have applied for Membership of the Magners League. This is not true.

I gave quite a long interview to the BBC yesterday and we talked about all manner of things. They have taken a couple of sound bites totally out of context and created a story.

Yes - we have written to the WRU - but that was to ask for a meeting to discuss our future in general.

Yes - the Magners League is something we would look at if the Premiership were to be ring-fenced.

BUT
No! - we have not applied for membership of the Magners League.
Our priority is to secure our place in this division."
