The Cornish Pirates
are visiting the Eden Project today (Monday 5th March) to help celebrate the venue's
St. Piran's Day celebrations. Players and coaching staff
will take part in a number of activities, whilst club merchandise will also be
on sale. Danny Olford, stewarding manager at Eden, said:
"Eden is really proud of its Cornish roots and it gives us great pleasure
to celebrate St. Piran's Day and invite our visitors to join in and have a great
time too. "It's fantastic that the Cornish Pirates have accepted our
invitation to visit on this memorable day, and a great way for the public to see
them out of their natural environment on the field." As part of
a long weekend of celebrations, Eden's retail team are holding a spring fair from
March 3 to 5 in the visitor centre, selling Cornish crafts and food. Cheese
and wine tasting is taking place in Apple Cafe, with four local vineyards and
three cheesemakers featured. Daffodil growers from Fentongollan
Farm, near Truro, are providing talks to visitors on bulb growing as well as selling
their flowers at the fair. Cornish choirs have been invited
to sing during the festivities and Eden staff will regale old and young alike
with myth and folklore stories of old Cornwall. Eden is
also launching its new 'Sense of Place' initiative for Cornish children, a project
designed for Cornwall Children's Services to meet the national curriculum in Cornwall
in exciting and innovative ways. The programme supports the agenda for 'Every
Child Matters' by encouraging schools to explore Cornish culture and history.
There will also be an exhibition called 'Gathering Space',
a display of children's work relating to Cornwall in Eden's education building:
'The Core'.
