Following
the web advert for a General Manager the Company received a considerable number
of replies many of who were excellent candidates.
The top five applicants
have been interviewed and an appointment made which became pressing in view of
the issues of marketing at the Pirates so an immediate appointment has been made
for the position to take us through to the end of the season in the first instance.
We
are therefore delighted to introduce Rod Coward as the new GM who will start immediately
having retired to Cornwall from his position as Chief Superintendent of the West
Yorkshire Police.
Rod
has an impressive history and originated from Halifax but we wont hold that against
him. He qualifies for MENSA so that should assist Gendall
in sorting out the ground improvements required! He is a modest man and has played
good sports at many levels including rugby.
Rods emphasis will be on financial
controls: marketing, the members club issues and plotting the way forward for
the Cornish Pirates.
The squad and media areas, as well as organisation
of match days is in very good shape, so Rod is aware of his priorities and will
be working with a very honest committed local team of good people whom are trustworthy.
We
all wish him major success

Two other new
faces - both local boys - are Rudi Grenfell and Geoff 'Dotcom' Nicholas.
Rudi
has taken over as Ticketing Manager and is the man running the operations at the
shop at the Mennaye.
A very hard working volunteer until recently, Rudi
has a plethora of exciting ideas - ignored until now - to improve our image with
Cornish rugby people.
Rudi Grenfell
Geoff
is different and if Pixies were 6ft tall he would be one.
A man very easy
to underestimate he is extremely committed and has a great sense of wicked humour
- as supporters of the website will no doubt realise.

We are delighted
that having crossed another bridge this last month - best described as "when
the cats away the mice will play" - that the Pirates have moved forward
rapidly and put our management back onto a professional and honest footing.
