Hobsons Choice

Scott Hobson, one of Cornwall's best young prospects, has been chosen in the England U19s squad for their match to be played against Italy U19s at Sunbury on Friday afternoon (5th. January).

A lock forward who has previously played for Hayle and Redruth, Scott has already been capped for England at the level, besides having also represented British Colleges.

The match against Italy will be England's first this season, it one of three internationals to be played by coach Nigel Redman's side in preparation for the IRB's U19s World Championship to be played in Belfast in April.

Update

Scott was used as a second half replacement as England Under-19s defeated their Italian counterparts 18-11 at Sunbury on Friday.

Hobson was one of three Westcountry-based players named in the England squad, which also included Exeter Chiefs pair Richard Bolt and Tom Bedford.

However, it was skipper Hugo Ellis that led the home side to victory. The Wasps number eight scored a superb individual effort in the first-half and fielded a cross-kick for a simple second 10 minutes from time.

Replacement fly-half Alex Goode (Saracens) added a conversion and penalty, while Adam Greendale (Leeds Tykes) kicked a penalty as England worked hard against a physical Italian side who were prepared to run from deep.

The visitors scored one try through wing Andrea Bacchetti with Saracens scrum-half David Wilson adding two penalties.
