Rhodri's 'Sevens' Exploits 26-27/05/07

Cornish Pirates speedster Rhodri McAtee was an important member of the Wales team that competed in the Emirates Airlines London Sevens played at Twickenham this past weekend.

After losing an opener against South Africa (24-14) his country topped their pool on Saturday with wins against England (22-0) and Portugal (15-14), the results seeing them qualify for Sunday's quarter-finals. Drawn against Scotland.

Rhodri was one of the try scorers in a 15-5 win which enabled Wales to deservedly secure a first-ever semi-final place in the main competition of an IRB Sevens Tournament. That particular contest was lost 24-7 to Fiji, it no disgrace against a William Ryder inspired side.

This coming weekend sees that the last round of the 2006-07 IRB series being played at Murrayfield , with Fiji, despite having lost to close rivals New Zealand in the Twickenham final, the likely favourites to retain their top of the table position for the second year running.
