Cornish Pirates stars Adryan
Winnan, Sam Heard, Darren Dawidiuk, Simon Whatling and Sam Parsons were all present
at the launch of the Warburtons Cornish Pirates Healthy Schools Programme, which
was held at Kehelland School, near Camborne on Wednesday 23rd January.
The
school, which only has 60 pupils gave itself over to Warburtons and the Cornish
Pirates, and were given a talk by the Cornish Pirates players about why a balanced
diet is important to help play sport and have enough energy for school.
With
Cornishmen to the fore, Sam Heard explained to local radio about the merits of
eating healthily, and Adryan Winnan posed with pupils from the school for local
press.
After that, the pupils had a practical session with
some Warburtons School Visitors, who explained how best to include bread into
a healthy diet, and demonstrated this with a fun healthy sandwich workshop, which
included the Pirates players, who got to eat some of the best sandwiches afterwards!
The
Warburtons Cornish Pirates Healthy Schools Programme will, over the next year
aim to educate pupils at 30 Cornish Primary Schools about becoming healthier and
more active, using the Cornish Pirates players as the prime example of what can
be achieved if you look after yourself.
Each school will
receive a wall chart, and each child a health diary, where they can record how
many times a week they
- Eat 5 or more portions of fruit and vegetables
a day
- Do 30 minutes or more of exercise
All the pupils will
receive tickets to a Cornish Pirates home fixture, and the school that does best
will receive a VIP day out at the Pirates ground.
