November 2007 The Young Enterprise Mission is a scheme
that was set up in the 1960s with the aim to inspire and equip young people to
learn and succeed through enterprise. It is a challenge
that has been taken up by 15 pupils from Mounts Bay School. All
year 10 students, they have set up a business called 'Qube', that has its own
elected board members who meet regularly and take on specific roles within the
'company'. The aim is to design and then market a specific
product or service, and hopefully make money from the endeavour. Shares are sold
to family and friends and at the end of the year the company folds and dividends
are paid. Above all, this provides a great experience for the participating students,
one of fun and reward. | | Young

Supporting
the initiative, the Cornish Pirates rugby team offered the company an opportunity
to sell tickets within the school to pupils, parents and staff, for their important
National League One local 'derby' match to be played against the Cornish All Blacks
at Camborne on Sunday 16th. December, kick-off at 2p.m. Ben Robinson,
Qube's 'Financial Director', commented: "The company would like to
thank the Cornish Pirates for their support, the Young Enterprise Mission is a
great scheme which gives us the chance to do something we really wanted to do.
It also helps us with developing our leadership and team
building skills while we are having fun. I'm really glad the chance to run our
own business came up, I'm really enjoying it!"
