| Young Islanders Enjoy 'Pirates' Hospitality |
Cornish Pirates Host Scilly Players Accompanied by coaches Rob Hughes and Ben Kirk, a number of young players from the Isles of Scilly flew to the mainland last weekend for a busy rugby schedule. Immediately upon their arrival in Penzance on Saturday they were transported to the Mennaye Field, where the players were given a coaching session by Cornish Pirates centre Simon Whatling, which they enjoyed immensely. Included among the islanders was Patrick May, a nephew of well-known 'Scillonian' Barneslie Ward - often referred to as the Pirates first overseas international! - who played for the Pirates first team in the early 1950s. A 'sevens' match at Helston followed on Saturday afternoon, where they were again hosted well, before on Sunday the group were guests of the Cornish Pirates when they played Plymouth Albion at Camborne.
