50,000th
Supporter Through The Gates 08/04/08 The Cornish Pirates
reached a new level on Sunday when they played Plymouth Albion, although this
one was for the supporters and not the team. It was an occasion at the
Recreation Ground, Camborne, when the Pirates welcomed Sid Prout and his 2 grandchildren
Nick and Chris, who are from Hayle, with Sid the 50,000th supporter of the season
who had passed through the gates to watch the great rugby on offer. This
is the first time ever that the club has welcomed this number of supporters through
the gates in a season, which is testament to the work being undertaken by the
club and the players throughout Cornwall. Marketing Manager Rob McEvoy said: "We
are delighted that our support is growing, and to reach this target with one game
to go shows that the more people are enjoying the quality and excitement of rugby
with the Cornish Pirates."
To
celebrate the occasion, and making light of the flurry of wintry weather in the
half-time interval, Cornish Pirates winger Jimmy Moore presented Sid with a Cornish
Pirates shirt which was donated by Whirlwind
Sports and had been signed by all the players.
