Energy Efficiency Week

Community Did you know that if you are receiving certain benefits, you may be able to claim up to £2,700 for gas central heating and up to £4,000 for oil central heating?

Did you know that you can get up to £500 to pay towards cavity wall and loft insulation?

Do you want to know more about renewable energy systems and government grants to help pay towards them?

This week marks the start of a national campaign to encourage you or someone you know to save energy and help reduce carbon emissions that are harmful to the planet.


Community Energy Plus and the Cornish Pirates are working together to help you combat climate change and at the same time make your home warmer and cheaper to heat.

The Pirates are taking action to inspire and encourage the local community to lead greener lifestyles.

  • The Pirates have signed the 3rd Sector Declaration on Climate Change to publicly affirm the importance of urgent action to deliver behaviour change

  • An energy audit at their training grounds at Penzance to see how they can reduce their own carbon footprint'

  • Supporting Energy Saving Week

  • Energy Saving information to be added to match day programmes

  • On-line call to action during Energy Saving Week on the Pirates' website

  • Permanent signage at their match day grounds in Camborne

CEP's top 10 money and energy saving tips:

  1. top up your loft insulation to the recommended depth of 250mm
  2. consider cavity wall insulation
  3. when you replace your heating/boiler system, get an energy efficient one
  4. get controls for your heating system
  5. buy 'A' rated appliances
  6. switch off appliances/lighting when not in use
  7. put draught excluders around draughty windows and doors
  8. don't leave your mobile phone on charge overnight
  9. only boil the amount of water in your kettle that you actually need
  10. Complete a 'Home Energy Check'

Complete a Home Energy Check to receive a free energy report on your home which will give an energy rating and suggestions on how to improve this rating.
