A
lifelong supporter of the Pirates, Robert Matthews, hopes to be an inspiration
for others after having had a gastric bypass operation. In
just six months Robert has shed 16 stones in weight, having previously tipped
the scales at a massive 31 stones. Having piled on
the pounds since his youth, at 42 years of age his quality of life was deteriorating,
it felt that only drastic action would help. That it has,
there is no doubt, Robert commenting: "The operation was dangerous but
I got through it and it's given me a new lease of life. Also, I'm happy
to speak to others about my experience if it can help them, because I know the
surgery was the last resort for me and I know that ir his has saved my life." Robert,
who is an owner of the Barn Club in Penzance, is a son of Harry Matthews, a former
Pirates player and official, who is probably our oldest regular supporter. |
