We
have been inundated with literally hundreds of emails, 'phone calls and letters
of support for Dicky Evans and the Club, in addition to the vast amount of postings
on our website. I would like to sincerely thank all those true supporters
who have been moved to voice their opinions and pledge themselves to the Cornish
Pirates. I also need to clarify what our current situation is and
also what our future aspirations are. Dicky has committed to honouring all existing
contracts for the remainder of this season and also those contracts, which
are currently in place for season 2008-09, applying to the core of the squad.
He has further agreed to remain a substantial benefactor of the Club and
the Cornish Pirates on an indefinite basis. This is excellent news and yet another
example, if one were needed, of the passion he holds for Penzance & Newlyn
RFC. Yesterday evening Penzance & Newlyn RFC Management Committee
held an Extraordinary Meeting. At the Meeting Robin Turner stood down as Chairman
of the Club with a view to offering himself for election to President at the forthcoming
EGM. The meeting, in accordance with the Bye-laws of the Club is required
to elect a new President and Chairman. The Management Committee will also require
approval of a change to the Bye-laws, which will allow for the strengthening of
the Management Committee. Anyone wishing to become a Member of
Penzance & Newlyn RFC should make an application to do so as soon as possible
in order that this application can be put before the Management Committee for
consideration before the EGM takes place. Membership forms can be downloaded from
our website, are available from the Club and will also be available at our next
game at Camborne. At the same meeting, under any other business,
Members will have the opportunity to express their views on the issues that led
to the negativity from certain quarters that caused Dicky Evans to resign, namely The
proposal to build and share in a Stadium for Cornwall to be built at Truro Subject
to planning approval, the proposal to redevelop the facilities at the Mennaye
Finally, on a matter that, due to recent events, has
been almost forgotten, the Cornish Pirates will not be appealing the decision
taken by the FDR Board of Directors that we should be deducted three league points
for contravening FDR Regulations during the recent fixture against Pertemp Bees.
The players are now targeting a strong finish to the season and any such distractions
are being put to one side. Rod Coward CEO
