Pirates players sign up for a 6 week cookery course

The Cornish Pirates are the latest to sign up for the Cornwall & IOS Primary Care Trust 'Eatsome' Project, which looks to improve the health of Cornwall by encouraging and educating people about healthy eating through practical and realistic sessions.

The Pirates players, who more than most need to eat healthily to keep their strength up have signed up for a 6 week cookery course designed to show them how to cook their own meals, and encourage confidence with healthy foods.

Simon Raynes

Simon Raynes, the Cornish Pirates Fitness & Conditioning Coach was behind the set up of the sessions, and believes that they will be invaluable to the players, commenting:

"The boys know what they should and shouldn't eat if they are going to reach their potential.

For many of them its difficult to eat the right things all the time as they just don't know how to cook good healthy meals.

By taking this course, they will gain a greater understanding of how to cook nutritious and tasty meals, which will in turn help them become better athletes."

Sophia Aston, Eatsome Project Co-ordinator said:

"The Pirates players show that anyone can benefit from the Eatsome Project, and people shouldn't be afraid to learn how they can cook nutritious meals to help improve their health."

On our first session we made a variety of tasty curries. Over the coming weeks we'll be making more delicious, fast and cheap meals.
