Making their final preparations for the Rugby World Cup which starts in France in September, it has been announced that because of injury, luckless Cornish Pirates back-rower Stan McKeen will not be in Canada's 30-man squad.

Despite ongoing treatment, a recurring lower leg injury would not correct itself, the news is a big blow to 25yr old Stan, one of Canada's finest players and holder of 21 caps for his country,

The decision was made after consultation with Canada's coach Ric Suggitt, who said "Stan felt he wouldn't be healthy enough to give one hundred percent at the World Cup, so together we have decided that Stan will take time off to get himself fully fit so that he can come back fully recovered to represent Canada again in the near future."

Stan will in the next few days receive specialist treatment in Vancouver, supporters and all at the Cornish Pirates keen to send him best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Jim McKay, head coach, commented "We are always keen to support players to play at a high level, and it is very disappointing for Stan that he will miss out on performing at this year's Rugby World Cup.

However, when he returns to Cornwall our aim will be to get him fully fit to play an important part in what is going to be a rigorous 2007-08 National One league campaign."

In the meantime, it has been confirmed that Stan's Canada and Cornish Pirates colleague, scrum-half Ed Fairhurst, will be travelling to France for opening match against Wales in Nantes on 9th. September.
