Nigerian
born, Eniola joined us on loan from Newcastle Falcons in July, 2007. A
lock forward whose versatility allows him to play blindside flanker and No. 8,
he dominates in loose play and uses height and guile to succeed at the back of
the line-out. Arriving on our shores as a young child,
'Eni' was introduced to rugby at Moorlands Preparatory School, Leeds, playing
first as a winger aged 9. At 13 he moved into the
pack when educated at Woodhouse Grove School, playing later for Yorkshire Schools
at U16 and U18 levels. Of other sports played, football
was a favourite - as a right winger. A keen follower of Arsenal, he was expected
to trial at Stockport County, and was also a gifted cross-country athlete, at
one stage running for Manchester Harriers. Back to the education front, a move
to further his education was rewarded when he gained a degree in Geography at
Northumbria Polytechnic. Eniola has captained the
Falcons development team on a number of occasions, and made his 1st. team debut
in a 44-20 defeat of Saracens in September, 2006. He has also been a member of
the extended England Sevens squad, who has starred at the Middlesex Sevens and
led Newcastle to victory in prestigious 'Borders' tournaments held at Melrose,
Langholm and Hawick. Highlights in his rugby career
include scoring a match-winning try for Woodhouse Grove against a school in Pretoria,
South Africa, and also playing in the Falcons team that beat Llanelli 25-9 in
last season's EDF Energy Cup competition. Eniola
has been a coach with the Falcons Community department, and is very popular, him
known as much for his playing ability as his willingness to talk to fans. The
call 'Eniola on your shoulder' also follows him, such is his ability to lend close
support and poach a few tries! |
