St. Ives Infants Presented With Healthy Eating Award

A special awards ceremony was recently held at County Hall for all schools that had achieved 'healthy status'.

Unfortunately, however, some of the plaques did not arrive, including those due St. Ives Infants School.

One young pupil, Josh, was particularly upset that his school didn't get their plaque, and when asked what could be done to make their award special when it arrived, he replied "can the Cornish Pirates present it?"

Request made, request answered, and at a recent assembly, attended by Cornish Pirates representatives Rhodri McAtee, Adrian Edwards and Phil Westren, playing star Rhodri presented the award that confirmed St. Ives Infants School to be officially healthy!

Gaining the status shows how well the school cares about every child, as do similar schools throughout the Duchy. Kate Pordage, the Programme's co-ordinator, commented "Over 70 have achieved the new, more rigorous national standard - putting Cornwall way ahead of the National targets."

Headteacher, Joanne Bean, said "We are very pleased that the Pirates could come and share the celebration with the children, and are very proud of becoming a healthy school."
