Kicking Masterclass Proves Popular

Autumn Masterclasses
31st October 2008

The Cornish Pirates ran Cornwalls first ever Kicking Masterclass during the October Half Term at the Cornish Pirates Home Ground, Camborne .

The event proved exceptionally popular with the young rugby players of Cornwall having a great day on a particularly wet Cornish Autumn Day

Ollie Thoma

Those present were given demonstrations by Pirates kicking assistant Mike Crump, and Pirates fly-half Ollie Thomas. Ollie was especially keen to work on the mental side, and happily shared his pre-kick routine with the kids..

Over the whole day, they worked on

  • Place Kicking
  • Restart Kicks
  • Kicking to touch
  • Kicking for Distance (Spiral Kicks)
  • Drop Goals

All of the participating youngsters left with a kicking tee, a Masterclass T-shirt, and hopefully a much better understanding of how to kick a rugby ball.

Pirates Community Coach Mike Crump said
“The day was very successful, and I hope we showed the attendees how best to kick a ball. All kids seem to love kicking the ball, and hopefully now some will be able to do it a lot better than their mates”
