16
primary schools in Cornwall have taken part in the Healthy Schools programme so
far, and 8 more will do so before Christmas. The programmes starts with
a visit from a player and a special assembly. Pupils then have to commit to eating
five portions of fruit and vegetables and doing 30 minutes of physical activity
every day for five weeks. Each child taking part will receive a diary to
log their efforts and a wall chart for the school. All those completing the challenge
will be awarded a certificate and free ticket to a Cornish Pirates game, with
the most successful school invited to be part of the tunnel at a home match and
featured in the match day programme. Matt Brown, manager of Warburtons depot
in Newton Abbot, said: "Healthy eating is a key part of the national curriculum
and we are committed to helping promote a healthy, active lifestyle among all
age groups, particularly future generations. We have run our school visitor workshops
across the UK for many years and have a dedicated education section on our website
so the Cornish Pirates Healthy Schools programme was a perfect fit for us. "The
programme is a great way of making sure that young people are getting enough fruit,
vegetables and exercise every day, just like their favourite players at the Cornish
Pirates, and it encourages good habits for the future." The Cornish
Pirates will be continuing with the Warburtons Healthy Eating programme up until
Christmas as part of their commitment to the local community. |
