Bertrand
spoke about the game and how he and his new wife are settling down to life in
Cornwall. He said:
" My wife (Anne-Sophie)
and I have both now settled down to our new life here in Cornwall, and everything
is going very well. I have been used to living by the sea down in the south of
France, and I feel very much at home here in Cornwall. On
the playing side I am getting used to the way the team plays and the different
playing patterns. I have confidence in the way we are going and it's coming together
little by little." Asked about his popularity with
the fans Bertrand replied:
" I am very happy
to have made such an impact with the fans so soon after my arrival here - it is
very special to me." Having played last season for Pau in
the Pro D2 in France, Bertrand was asked about the level of rugby in National
League One compared to the level he played in France. He said:
"The game in England is much more physical with very strong defences as
opposed to the teams in France. It is a very high standard throughout the league." Bertrand
was asked if there was any truth in the rumours that he had been approached by
Guinness Premiership clubs. Laughing, he assured those present that "there
was no foundation to these stories." Asked if he enjoyed hearing
'La Marseillaise' after he scores a try (as he did again against Moseley), he
answered:
"Very much so, I love to hear La Marseillaise!" Is
he surprised at the level of support for the Pirates not just at home but at the
away games too?
"Yes, it's really great, they are real supporters who
are always behind us even when we don't always play as well as we could have.
They don't criticise us or get on our backs - the support is phenomenal, it helps
to lift the players. " Did he or the rest of the players feel added
pressure against Moseley after having lost their last three home matches?
"Certainly
as the games go by, we haven't had the results we had hoped for. However,
as I said previously, we have confidence in the way we are playing and know that
the results will come. Today the team took another step forward with the win against
Moseley, it was a close game but today one that we won. A game like that two weekends
ago we would have lost." Finally, Bertrand was asked if we had
seen the best of him yet?
"I've still got a lot of work to do on the
playing side, besides working on my English. I hope to progress further, which
is one of the reasons why I came here - the best is yet to come!" |
