| For
the past 10 weeks the CPLZ has had a number of year 10 students from Humphry Davy
School attending a Leadership programme run by Learning Zone teacher, Clare Moore. In
a mature manner, the students have been learning how to plan, run and evaluate
their own sessions, and they have all shown a confidence in dealing with their
peers and younger students. |

| The
Cornish Pirates Learning Zone's recently introduced 'Friday Night Project' has
proved both successful and enjoyable. The project, which runs from 5-7pm
each Friday evening at the Humphry Davy School, Penzance, is always keen to introduce
various activities of interest, with one of the latest being a visit from the
gifted TR14ers dance troupe. Holding a dance class at the evening, their presence
was much appreciated by the children, who were given an opportunity to take part
in an activity that was a little different from various sports usually played. |

| Following
a successful bid to the Department of Children, Schools and Families the Cornish
Pirates have joined 30 clubs across a network of Premiership Football and Rugby
Clubs, which include Newcastle FC, Leicester Tigers RFC and Gloucester RFC to
deliver the Double Club within secondary schools. Earlier this year the
Cornish Pirates Learning Zone established a pilot for the scheme at Mounts Bay
School & Community Sports College, and it can already be seen how the programme
of study allows teachers to harness students enthusiasm for sport to increase
literacy and numeracy skills. |

| Staff
at the Cornish Pirates Learning Zone have in recent weeks given the young students
the chance to invite a Cornish Pirates player in for an interview to find out
how life is as a professional sportsman. Also, at the CPR
Learning Space at Camborne, the Cornish Pirates 'Reading Champion', Peter Cook,
very kindly responded to attend four similar sessions, when he was interviewed
by 60 pupils who then wrote a news article about the experience. |

| The
120 pupils from throughout West Cornwall who have been attending the CPLZ this
term have recently taken part in an innovative and exciting activity which has
taken place over a two weeks period. Students were all
given a budget and resources to buy and build a stadium to their own design, and
at the end of the activity they provided feedback to the others in the group,
giving reasons why certain things were included in their stadium. |
