Following
the Cornish Pirates 49-7 points Cornwall Super Cup win against the Cornish All
Blacks at the Mennaye Field in September, their away match at Polson Bridge takes
place this evening (ko 7.30pm). Despite having played Leeds
Carnegie in a closely fought encounter in National One on Sunday, the Cornish
Pirates selection for this evening still includes several faces who featured in
yesterday's match. In the pack Sams Heard and Betty, and Matt Evans, will play,
as will backs Mark Ireland and Rhodri McAtee. Prop Dan Seal and centre Steve Winn
are named on the bench, along with assistant coach Brett Davey who played at fly-half
when the teams met at the Mennaye. Simon Whatling, who has
been out of the game for 14 months with a shoulder injury, makes a most welcome
return. He is selected at fly-half in a back line that also includes Doug Sanft
in the centre and Aisea Havili on the wing. Once again a
number of the Pirates 'Amateurs' have also been selected, including lock Sam Heath,
flanker Wayne Davey, and wing Kelvin James. The team will be captained by
hooker Peter Cook. Cornish Pirates: R. Bright, A. Havili, M.
Ireland, D. Sanft, K. James, S. Whatling, R. McAtee, M. Evans S. Betty, W.
Davey, A.N. Other, S. Heath, S. Heard, P. Cook (capt), P. Andrew. Replacements:
D. Seal, A. Gwennap, D. Law, S. Winn, B. Davey, A. Hall. It can
be further noted that the Cornish Pirates will be at home to Redruth in the 'Super
Cup' (under floodlights at the Mennaye Field, Penzance) on Monday 1st December,
and will play them away (which will actually be at St. Ives) on Monday 19th January.
Both of these games will also kick-off at 7.30pm. |
