Cornish Pirates

Heino Returns

Rotherham V Cornish Pirates

Sunday January 31st
Kick Off 2pm

 Rotherham

Having missed their last three games, the Cornish Pirates welcome Heino Senekal back from injury for this weekend's important game away to Rotherham.

It's tenth versus seventh in the league, and this a game where the Pirates will be extra keen to grab league points on offer following the disappointment of losing 32-28 against the Titans at Camborne last October.

In that match they went 17-0 down in just 13 minutes, and although they clawed their way back into the game, Rotherham flanker Ryan Burrows ultimately broke Cornish hearts with a crucial try scored in injury-time.

As for the home side this Saturday, their incentive is to do the double on their opponents, and to break a streak that has seen them lose their last five games, and their team will also likely feature a number of personnel who have played for the Pirates in the past.

Former fly-half Tom Barlow is Rotherham's top points scorer, whilst scrum-half Neil Chivers and centre Nick Buckley also wear the club's maroon and blue colours. Nick, who left Cornwall at the end of last season, has just signed a new two-year deal with the Yorkshire side. Also, in back-rower Tinus Du Plessis, they have an international who has played for Namibia in the same team as Heino, and who starred for the Cornish All Blacks in National One last season.

Besides the inclusion of Heino, who takes over from Sam Raven in the second-row, other changes in the Cornish Pirates team from the side that ran out against Manchester last weekend sees Ed Fairhurst selected at scrum-half in place of the injured Nicky Griffiths, Blair Cowan named at blind-side flanker in place of Chris Morgan, and Paul Devlin taking over the wing spot vacated by Rhodri McAtee.

Rhodri is presently in preparation with the Wales Sevens squad ahead of forthcoming IRB Sevens series tournaments scheduled in Wellington (6-7th Feb) and San Diego (14-15th Feb).

Another player welcomed back to fitness for the Cornish Pirates is Scott Franklin, who has not played since injuring himself playing for Canada against Scotland in November. He is named on the bench, as is fellow prop Dan Seal who has served his one match suspension.
