The
Cornish Pirates, keen to lift their performance and raise the morale of their
supporters, will be facing a resurgent Rotherham Titans side at the Recreation
Ground, Camborne, this Sunday. Indeed,
after losing their first four games the Yorkshire team have notched up 106 points
in back-to-back wins which will see them arrive in Cornwall quietly confident
of achieving victory. Former Cornish Pirates fly-half
Tom Barlow has been in impressive form for the Titans, kicking five conversions
and three penalties in their 59-32 points win at Esher, and following that performance
up by converting five of Rotherham's seven tries scored in their comprehensive
home win (47-23) against Moseley last week. Partnering
Tom at scrum-half will be another former Pirate, Neil Chivers, whilst at open-side
flanker Namibian international Tinus Du Plessis is another familiar face, having
played against the Pirates for the Cornish All Blacks last season. Rotherham's
full-back Mike Whitehead, who was their leading points scorer last season, leads
a side that has both strength in the pack and pace in the outsides. Talking
of pace, Tongan winger Aisea Havili returns to the starting line-up for the Cornish
Pirates, one of five changes in the backs from the one that ran out against Manchester
last week. The half-back pairing of Doug Sanft and Ed Fairhurst
are also recalled, with Tom Luke (recovered from a slight injury) partnering Paul
Devlin in the centre. The selection of flanker Chris Morgan,
prop Dan Seal (who has recently made his 200th appearance for the Pirates - which
is a truly tremendous achievement in the modern era) and hooker Rob Elloway sees
Sam Betty, Scott Franklin and Darren Dawidiuk drop to the bench. Adryan Winnan,
who was declared unfit to travel up north last week and who will be keen to return
