1st August 2008
At a very well attended 'Meet the Players' event held at the Mennaye Field and the 'Westholme' clubhouse on Friday evening, it was announced the full-back Adryan Winnan will captain the Cornish Pirates in the coming season.
The announcement was officially made after new players present were introduced to the gathering of Season Ticket Holders, and it was one that was clearly well received.
Cornishman Adryan, who is 25 years old and has made nearly 50 appearances for the Pirates since joining from French side Tarbes in 2006, said:
"It is a great honour to captain the Cornish Pirates. The pre-season training has been really good, and the team spirit is already building as we prepare for what will clearly be a competitive campaign".
Coach, Mark Hewitt has great respect for the chosen captain, commenting:
"Adryan is an experienced player, has played in the Premiership, and has all the qualities to be a successful captain. He is a passionate Cornishman, who will show leadership and commitment both on and off the field."
