April 2009

Representing Coodes Solicitors, the Cornish Pirates and Worldwide Financial Planning, Claire Thayers, Dania Shaw and Jess Bartlett recently formed a winning partnership to organise a successful and enjoyable 'Sponsors Charity Kicking Competition'.

The event was held at the Recreation Ground, Camborne, where Cornish Pirates players were present to act as kicking coaches, officiators and ball boys! Teams competing were as follows:-

Coodes Kickers (Coodes Solicitors), Midas Touch (Midas), Mpad's Kick n Mix Posse (MPAD), Pall Management Mariners (PALL), Pall Production Privateers (PALL), Turbot Trimmings (Rick Stein), SBC (Scott Burridge Commercial), and The Uprights (Worldwide Financial Planning).

Using both ends of the pitch, there were five members per team who each had two kicks at goal, and from various distances. And who were the winners? Well, not surprisingly it was the 'Midas Touch' - whose members proved that they had just that! With an entry fee of £50 per team, this enabled the winners to donate £400 to Children's Hospice South West, which was their particular chosen charity.

Stuart Wilkes from Midas Touch actually scored the most points for his team, so he will now be kicking at half-time against Captain Benbow when the Cornish Pirates play London Welsh at Camborne on Saturday 25th April.

Commenting on the event, Dania Shaw, who is the Marketing & Events Co-ordinator at the Cornish Pirates, said:

"Everyone who took part had a great time, with sincere thanks expressed to all who responded to make this first time event a success. The winners did indeed have the Midas Touch and their chosen charity is one that is very close to a lot of Cornish hearts."

Thanks were also expressed to St. Austell Brewery for donating beer rations, and to Rowe's Bakers for the provision of pasties.
