are in order for Gunta Basko, the girlfriend partner of Cornish Pirates full-back
Adryan Winnan, who has been selected to play for the Latvian women's basketball
team in this summer's Olympic Games. An experienced
international, Gunta is a skilled offensive player and an excellent finisher,
and is someone who also speaks four languages. The couple
met in France in 2005 when Adryan played for Tarbes and Gunta represented the
Tarbes women's basketball side that competed in the French Pro League and the
Fiba Cup.  Gunta
has played for Montpellier these past two seasons, but after the Olympics will
be joining the Salamanca club in Spain.
She will be leaving
for China at the end of July, with matches scheduled to take place at the Wukesong
Indoor Stadium, Beijing. Women's basketball is the only
team event that Latvia has qualified for in the 2008 Olympic Games, their side
having made steady progress in recent years, and having finished fourth in last
year's European Championships. Adryan is immensely proud of Gunta's
achievements, and will be keenly monitoring her progress from afar - as will now
numerous other supporters of the Cornish Pirates!
