Netball Challenge For Charity

Cornish Pirates v Penryn Netball Club
Wednesday April 1st 2009

Yes, it might have been April Fool's Day, but the Cornish Pirates were still up for the challenge of facing Penryn Netball Club's ladies when the two teams met for a netball match at Penryn College last Wednesday evening.

Sarah Conniffe-Jones, who will be running in this year's London Marathon to support the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre, had thrown down the gauntlet for the Cornish Pirates to respond to the challenge, which coach Brett Davey and his squad were happy to do.

The evening proved most enjoyable, and it one when for once the result didn't count, as it was organised simply to benefit a truly worthy cause.

The MSRC is a proactive and innovative charity, passionately supporting anyone affected by Multiple Sclerosis through access to unbiased information and advice.

Its approach is to encourage individuals to make choices that are appropriate to their daily lives, empowering them to maximise potential.

Cornwall has the second highest incidence of MS in the United Kingdom, there an estimated 1,000 people in the county who have the disease.

Also, when the Cornish Pirates played Esher at Camborne in March, there was a half-time collection in aid of the 'Multiple Sclerosis Trust'. Organised by sisters Jade and Jamie Crockett, who had in advance trekked across the Sahara Desert in support of the charity, over £500 was raised with help from the Cornish Pirates players.
