Phil Angove Joins coaching Team
26th June 2008

Unveiled at the Mennaye Field this week as a new Cornish Pirates Assistant Coach, specialising in scrummaging, was former county supremo Phil Angove who coached Cornwall to their last County Championship success when Cornwall beat Gloucestershire at Twickenham in 1999.

The 51 year old retired policeman, a former Redruth, Exeter and Cornwall hooker, is someone who has a tremendous knowledge of the game and is held in high regard.

He has coached successfully at Redruth, Truro and Mounts Bay, and is looking forward to providing expertise for the benefit of the Pirates.

Phil Angove replaces former Gloucester, Leicester and England hooker Robin Cowling, who has provided considerable input in recent seasons, and has been a man responsible for the development of so many good young Cornish rugby players, having helped them in his role as Rugby Academy Manager for SWERA, which is based at Truro College.

Commenting on the news at the Mennaye this week, CEO Rod Coward said:
'The acquisition of a top quality scrummage machine and the services of Phil Angove will give our forwards an extra edge in what is sure to be a highly competitive area of the game during the coming season.

I must also mention the contribution that Robin Cowling has made to the Cornish Pirates over the past seasons and to wish him well as he continues his invaluable work at the South West Rugby Academy.'

Season Ticket Holders are reminded that the official Cornish Pirates 'New Kit Launch' will be held at the Camborne clubhouse on Thursday 3rd July at 7.30pm, when there will also be a Question & Answer session with CEO Rod Coward and coaches Mark Hewitt, Brett Davey and Simon Raynes.
