16th December 2008 Kiwi coach Chris Stirling has returned home to
New Zealand this week, having enjoyed a seven-week spell with the Cornish Pirates. Currently
a Wellington B coach, Chris has assisted the Cornish Pirates coaching team with
particular reference to the 'ELVs'. Commenting on his time spent with the
Pirates, Chris said: "Over the last seven weeks I have had the pleasure
of getting to know and understand the Cornish Pirates. The players, coaching and
admin staff have all made my time here something to remember, with there a special
thank you to John and Wendy Nicholas for welcoming me into their family and looking
after me." Chris felt that the Pirates on field performances have
achieved positive development and that the potential within the squad is starting
to be realised. In his view, as others would endorse, the style of play is both
exciting and enjoyable for all involved and is a point of difference in a competition
that is dominated by conservative play. He further commented: "The
Cornish Pirates will be successful because of the passion that is displayed by
the players, coaches, support staff and the loyal support they receive from the
people of Cornwall. I will take back many fond memories of my time in the county
and the people that I have met, and I wish the Pirates and everybody involved
a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year." |
