Hooker Rob Gains International Honours - As A Flanker!

May 2009

Rob Elloway, who played international rugby for England 18 Group, made his debut for Germany this month, coming off the bench to play in the unaccustomed position of flanker.

Having been born in Rinteln, Germany, in 1983, where his father Kevin was serving in the Royal Engineers, and with a German mum, Jacqueline, qualifies hooker Rob Elloway to play for his country of birth.

Earlier this month Rob played for Germany in the European Nations Cup Division One competition, known as Six Nations 'B', which is the premier competition for second tier nations in Europe.

It is split over two seasons and involves also Georgia, Portugal, Romania, Russia and Spain.

The match was hosted in Hanover, where the home side lost 53-0 against a strong Russian team.

Playing for Germany means that Rob's name will now be added to the growing list of Pirates who have gained international honours, all of which are displayed on the club's Honours Board.
