Pirates Brian Tuohy and Rhodri McAtee will be in Dubai next week, expecting to
compete in the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens. The
spectacular event takes place from the 5-7th March at a new, purpose-built complex,
aptly named 'The Sevens'.
Brian has been named in Ireland's
12-man squad, having helped his country qualify for the event through qualifying
tournaments held last summer. Ireland will play in Pool D alongside Samoa., Australia,
and Portugal. As
for Rhodri, who is nowadays an experienced member on the World Sevens circuit,
he expects to compete against Argentina, Zimbabwe, and Uruguay in Pool F.
The
six Pool winners (A-F) and best two runners-up will progress to the Melrose Cup
quarter-finals, whilst the four other runners-up and four best sides that finish
third in their Pool will contest the Plate. The remaining sides will contest the
Bowl.
