Ollie
Thomas Ollie is the son of former
Aberavon, Llanelli, and Moseley wing Alan Thomas, the 25-year-old a product of
the Midlands side's junior section. He
attended King Edward's Fiveways School, Birmingham, which has produced a number
of top level players, including former England winger Keith Fielding. Until
the age of 17, Ollie was a diminutive scrum-half, frustrated that lack of size
would hold him back in the game, him then suddenly shooting up a few inches. Moseley's
'Player of the Season' in 2003 and 'Supporters Player of the Season' in 2005,
he broke a number of the club's all time scoring records in the past few seasons.
Indeed, such was his points scoring prowess that in his penultimate game for 'Mose'
he passed the 1000 points for them in just four seasons - an exceptional record,
especially when considering that in his first year he was not their main kicker. Despite
Moseley finishing fourteenth in National One in 2006-07, narrowly avoiding relegation,
Ollie still ended up third in the league's top points scoring list. In total he
notched up an impressive 287 points, including a club record 28 points for Moseley
in a 38-32 win against Nottingham. Personal
highlights to date include winning National Two with Moseley in 2005-06, playing
for England Counties, and also hitting a century at Edgbaston - as a number three
batsman he played for Warwickshire from U12s to U19s level, rugby then becoming
his number one focus. Ollie's
debut for the Pirates last season was frustratingly delayed because of injury,
but when fit and given a starting chance away to Newbury at the end of September,
he played exceptionally well. In total, he made 22 appearances in his first season,
and scored 59 points. |
