Troon Tradition Is Celebrated 23/06/08
Joe Beardshaw Perpared For Rain

Troon Mid-Summer Festival
23/06/08

There may have been mist and rain, the elements failed to dampen Troon Primary School's mid-summer festival and tea treat.

Cornish Pirates representatives 'Captain Benbow', Joe Beardshaw and Phil Westren joined a variety of community organisations in procession through the village before returning to the school.

Pupils and staff, along with parents and villagers, displayed stoic enthusiasm and spirit to make the event a success, as outside activities were inevitably restricted on the day.

The 'walk' and 'tea treat' is an ancient tradition in the village of Troon, near Camborne, and is similar to feast days which are found all over Cornwall at various times of the year.

Assistant headteacher Julie Lamb greatly appreciated the Pirates making the effort to attend the important date in the school's calendar, commenting:
"It is wonderful that people in the community respond to help keep events such as ours going, and although the weather was a little disappointing, the Pirates certainly didn't let us down!"
