Players Interviewed At The Learning Zone

November/December 2008

In recent weeks, the Cornish Pirates Learning Zone has given students the chance to invite a Cornish Pirates player for an interview to find out about life as a professional sportsman.

Each student wrote a persuasive letter to a player inviting them along to one of the CPLZ's sessions, and then came up with questions they wantet to ask.

Following this the group came together as a class to mind-map their questions on the Zone's interactive whiteboard.

Using the AppleMac software 'ComicLife', the students produced some fantastic looking questionnaire booklets, which they will be able to take home at the end of term.

Every week there are four groups of students at the Zone, and each group got the chance to meet a different player.

The students relished the opportunity to interview a 'Cornish Pirate', which enabled them to develop a whole range of skills, from improving their literacy with their letter writing, developing 'IT' to create their interview booklet, to boosting self-esteem and confidence through interviewing the players.

The students genuinely gained much from this experience, and found it invaluable.

Also, at the CPR Learning Space at Camborne, the Cornish Pirates 'Reading Champion', Peter Cook, attended four similar sessions, where he was interviewed by 60 pupils who then wrote a news article about the experience.

The CPLZ would like to take the opportunity to thank the players who came and visited them to take part in the interviews - it greatly appreciated by all!
