Nottingham v Doncaster Knights

In the first of tonight’s midweek fixtures Nottingham return to Meadow Lane for the first time since December 13 th to play a Doncaster Knights side who have been without a game for a month.

Nottingham themselves finally got back into action at Bedford on Saturday but suffered a 51-19 thumping at the hands of the Blues as Mike Rayer`s team cut loose.

With a fixture backlog to navigate director of rugby Glenn Delaney is looking for a quick response to Saturday’s mauling from his team. He said,

“You can come up with any number of excuses but on the day that performance was simply not good enough.”

"We were poor and that's an end of it. We have been through it with the players and the one thing about this group is that they are brutally honest and I am expecting a big response from them."

Knights boss Lynn Howells told The Star that the enforced winter break was the last thing his resurgent team needed.

He said,

“The break couldn't have come at a worst time because things were going well for us. "We had sorted out our defensive problems and we had the best defensive record in the league in the last three months of the year,

"We'd also got our discipline right after bringing in referees to our training sessions and it will be a case of getting back to that mentality again. The hope is that we can pick up where we left off in December.”
