London Welsh head coach Danny Wilson has told the Richmond & Twickenham Times that his team are travelling to Cornwall to face the Cornish Pirates this weekend in determined mood.

He said, “We have got to get a performance from the Pirates game in order to get some momentum heading into our first play-off game.”

“Having said that, at the same time there are a few players who could do with a rest.

It is all about managing the whole thing and we will look at the Cornish game and base our selection on some individual performances, some of which have been good and some bad.”

Meanwhile Rugby Times has reported that Number 8 Tom Brown has signed for Cardiff Blues next season with flanker Michael Hills possibly on his way to France.

With the club needing cash to cover the wage bill during April and May Danny Wilson has been unable to start his recruitment for next season as he has no idea what his budget will be.

He told Rugby Times, “Obviously our boys would be foolish not to look at offers from elsewhere because at this moment we cannot offer them a future.”

“But while nothing is done yet I`m not in a position to put anything on the table which means it is going to be difficult to keep hold of good players like Michael (Hills).”

Chiefs coach Rob Baxter told The Express & Echo that he was happy with his side’s performance at Plymouth Albion in the cup on Saturday.

Baxter recalled his big guns for the clash and said,

"We've given our boys a good run out and we needed it.They had quite a long break from training last week and sometimes there's nothing like playing rugby to get you ready for your next game of rugby.”

"Jessy (Matt Jess) had a touch of food poisoning and he didn't feel up to it. There wasn't any point pushing him. He probably could have started, but it gave us the opportunity to give Phil (Dollman) plenty of game time.”

"Nic (Sestaret) looked at home on the wing, he had another good game, and we shuffled things later on but we didn't lose too much shape. There was a bit of rustiness there but it was good that we got so many guys 80 minutes, I think we needed it."

Moseley face Bristol at Billesley Common on Saturday knowing that victory is essential if they are to avoid the relegation play-offs.

Skipper Neil Mason told the Sunday Mercury,

“It seems like we can perform when we have to. That should not be the case, we should perform every week. When the boys come out on March 13 I have no doubt in my mind that everyone of them will go out there with 100 per cent commitment.”

“Their attitude will be spot on and we are a different side when that happens. There’s no disguising the fact our supporters can tell. I am not saying we are not up for some games but we seem to be a couple of per cent down.”

“We have to be at 100 per cent to compete with the best and Bristol will have to be a couple of per cent down. Let’s be honest they have got the budget, the facilities and everything they need to be at the top so we have got to play to our maximum.”
