Coventry boss Phil Maynard faces being without injured duo Ross McMillan and Henno Venter for at least three weeks after Sunday’s bruising encounter against the Cornish Pirates at Camborne.
Back row Venter suffered concussion after a third minute hit by Blair Cowan whilst his replacement, McMillan, suffered a seizure just before half-time after a blow to his head.
“It seemed like that terrible experience we had on the bus with Ben Pons all over again,” Maynard said in reference to last season when Ben Pons suffered an allergic reaction after a match in Esher.
“Ross was frothing at the mouth, it was very distressing. He was taken to hospital and, thankfully, we were able to pick him up and bring him home.”
Plymouth Albion scrum-half Ruairi Cushion has warned that his team will “come out all guns blazing” against the Cornish Pirates at Brickfields on Saturday.
The Irishman made his debut for Albion against Exeter Chiefs last weekend and is determined to keep hold of the jersey. He believes that their performance at Sandy park “raised the bar” and told The Herald, “Our defence was so much better. We really went at them with our defence and put in some smashing tackles.”
He added, “We have another big derby this Saturday against the Cornish Pirates, but it us at home in front of our own supporters and they can really be our 16th man.”
Exeter Chiefs full-back Emyr Lewis has told his team mates that they will lose at Bristol on Sunday if they do not cut out their mistakes.
Following Saturday`s victory against Plymouth Albion, a match far closer than many had expected, he told the Express & Echo, “When you give tries away with a 70-metre interception, the team are going to get their heads up and confidence goes through the team.”
With Head Coach Rob Baxter having now fielded 30 of his 36-man squad in four Championship matches Lewis added, “You could put two teams from Exeter out on the pitch and I wouldn’t be able to tell you what the score would be.”
