St Austell Easter Masterclass Report

The Cornish Pirates ran their Easter 'Masterclass' at St Austell RFC during the school holidays, when children came from all around the area to learn new skills and improve the ones they already had!

The Masterclasses consists of three days of rugby delivered by the Cornish Pirates Community Coaches. .

Community Development Officer Mike Crump said:

“This was the second time we held a Masterclass at St Austell RFC. Cornish Pirates players Rudi Brits and Matt Evans were also present and it was great to make a revisit.

We spotted familiar faces and noted how they have improved their rugby skills, and we also welcomed a number of new players who came along for the first time, providing an example of how numbers are still improving in rugby.

We run the classes from 10am until 3pm for each of the three days, working on every skill needed to play rugby with technical coaching, and involving these skills into fun conditioning or live games.

We have now run 19 Masterclasses and each time we bring new material along, which is proven by the amazing feedback we get from the children and parents.”

The Community section on this website is now being built, where it will be possible to find pictures, feedback from parents, plus details of forthcoming Masterclasses.

Browsers of the site will also be kept up to date with all that is happening in relation to the work of the Cornish Pirates Community Team – in the community.

The Cornish Pirates Community Team have recently been out coaching around local schools who have taken up the club's 'In The Community' community coaching option 1.

The schools receive 4 x 1 hour coaching sessions, rugby balls and tags, tickets to a Cornish Pirates game, and a player visit.

Two schools who have taken got involved with the community team are Godolphin and Grade Ruan Primary schools. The schools have also both left great feedback and we look forward to working with them in the future.
