CYCLING TO LONDON – ON THE 'PROM'

Ludgvan School Trip Fund Raiser
18th May 2010

On a bright and sunny Saturday morning Cornish Pirates players Dave Ward, James Doherty and Rhodri McAtee supported young pupils from Ludgvan CP School who were cycling on the Penzance promenade.

The school hopes to take one of its junior classes on a residential trip to London this summer, and their aim is to raise at least £1000 to assist with the funding.

School staff, pupils and Pirates gathered to start cycling from the Jubilee Pool end of the promenade at just after 9am, with the aim of cycling up and down the 'prom' to cover 308 miles, which is the approximate distance from Penzance to London.

Was the £1,000 target reached? Well, the monies are being counted and it is expected to exceed the figure – as happened with the mileage, fo 400 miles were eventually covered!

Commenting on what was a magnificent effort, teacher Chris Mottram said:

“It was great that three Pirates, who were all involved the next day when their team beat Munster in the British & Irish Cup final, took time out to help our school and its youngsters.

It was a tremendous response considering their commitments, and we greatly appreciated their support.”
