HALF TERM 'MASTERCLASS' IS ANOTHER SUCCESS
Pirates 'Masterclasses'

16th Cornish Pirates Master Class

23rd February 2010

The 16th Cornish Pirates Master Class was held at Penryn College where Community Coaches used the 3g rubber crumb pitch for the three days of rugby.

Master Classes run for three days 10am-3pm. The coaches cover all aspects of the game during the three days, which this time covered three groups tag, contact and girls rugby.

Cornish Pirates community coach Mike Crump commented:

“it is always nice to come back to Penryn. The facilities are fantastic and the players always rise to the occasion.

Over the three days I had all of the Community Coaches delivering coaching sessions with the players, which was a great opportunity for them to work with different coaches and learn different views on the game.

We spilt the children up into two groups so the younger children could work on their skills and learn a slow introduction into contact rugby with tag games as well, where as the bigger older players who just want to do contact all three days had the chance to do so, but soon changed their minds when they found out how tired you become.”

“It was also our first time we ran a 1 days Maser Class for girl’s rugby.

I was over the moon to see the attendance and commitment from the girls, who put in some really hard effort in the drills and games. It was a taster, but we will defiantly be running more of these alongside the 3 day master Classes in the future.”

Parent Kerry Kitto said

“Excellent, very enthusiastic team of coaches. My son has learnt a lot of new things and had fun at the same time. Great value for money!”

The Masterclass 'winner' was 12 years old Aiden Richardson who plays for Penryn U13s. Aiden and his family will join the Pirates Community team this weekend to watch the Cornish Pirates versus Exeter match in the British & Irish Cup.

He will also be the club's 'mascot' for the day, accompanying the captain of the Pirates when the the team runs out of the tunnel and onto the field at the start of the match.

Aiden was named 'winner' not just for being a gifted rugby player, but also because he had shown a willingness to listen and learn, and to work with the coaches and other players.

The next Cornish Pirates Masterclass will be held at St. Austell RFC during Easter. Further details will be confirmed in due course.
