COACHES HELP THE GIRLS

Girls Rugby At Truro College

On Thursdays, Pirates community coaches Mike Crump and Leon Pohe have been coaching with the Girls Rugby Academy at Truro College.

The Academy has 6 – 8 hours of training per week, involving game related practices and skills, fitness training and running, and fixtures for 7, 10 and 15-a-side rugby take place on Wednesdays across the whole of the South of England.

Julie Penprase is the Academy leader and DTL for sport in the college, and England international Georgina Rozario is also a coach. Georgina combines her work coaching the girls with her involvement with the Elite England squad.

All players in the academy are on full time programmes – either a vocational course like BTEC National Diploma in Sport, or a three/four A level programme.

Mike commented: “We have been coaching the Thursday sessions for a month now, and the girls have given great feedback back to us. We are delighted both as coaches and as representatives of the Pirates to be involved in this successful team, and will look to help out in any way we can in the future.
