March 2010
Despite the obvious commitment and focus for the Cornish Pirates as they enter a busy end of the season in the RFU Championship and British & Irish Cup competitions, players have still willingly given of their spare time to help the young students who attend the CPR Learning Space at Camborne.
At the beginning of March the staff at the CPR Learning Space were delighted to welcome squad members Steve Winn, Matt Evans, Mark Ireland and Luke Collins, who were interviewed (some would say 'grilled!') by 60 children from Treleigh, Treloweth, Pool, Camborne, Weeth and Trevithick Schools, who played the role of budding young reporters.
Teacher John Watson felt it his duty to pass on certain details that were revealed, by afterwards asking the question do you know what Luke Collins and Steve Winn have in common? Answer, they have both had very similar facial injuries.
When asked if he had any pre-match rituals, Steve also said “Only one - if my socks come out the bag inside out, then I leave them that way!”’
John advised that a recurring question asked in every interview concerns injuries, and over the years the students have heard some fascinating and interesting answers.
He commented “It really brings it home when listening, how much the players put their bodies on the line for the Pirates’ cause.“
