Nick Says It's Soccer Mad In South Africa

Nick Jackson At The Soccer World Cup

Back home in South Africa for the close season break, Cornish 'Pirate' Nick Jackson says the atmosphere has been unbelievable and is something he has never experienced in his whole life.

A big plus is that the unity of the country has reached new levels, although there was natural disappointment that 'Bafana Bafana' were knocked out of the competition, despite beating France 2-1 at Bloemfontein's Free State Stadium. Bafana Bafana, as South Africa's side is known, is a term of endearment which means 'The Boys'.

More people are watching football apparently than ever before, and stadiums have been packed out.

People are soccer mad wherever you go, and foreigners are blowing vuvuzelas more than the locals!

Nick has been fortunate to go to two games, the 4-0 win for Germany against Australia and the surprise 1-0 victory for Switzerland against Spain. Both matches were played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
